Week 4

Rain, rain go way! I hope you are having a good weekend. This week was a busy. I created a Ning Network for the class as a way for all of us to communicate and share information. I believe Ning could be a great resource for a class. It has discussion forums, blogs and chats to help the community members communicate. Dr. Monaghan discussed the fact that Social Networks were growing as a way for people to share ideas all of the time. I have used Ning to discuss how I have integrated Storytelling Alice in my classes. I have learned a lot through some of the resources I have listed in the Links section. Check it out.

There was a lot to think about with how projects should be properly formatted. The book gave some great techniques that I am going to include in my lessons with the students. I need to redo many of my pages based on the proper way to do it. There are times that I worry more about getting my student’s attention instead of relaying the information.  As I was looking at the questions, I think number 1 was the most difficult because it was hard to narrow down to one example and be able to explain how effective it was.

  1. Chris I like the idea of using Google Document. I am currently taking a class were we have to collaborate each week and write a paper. This system seems like it would have been easier to come up with a good collaborate paper. I think I will play with it over spring break and use it in the next class that requires collaboration.

  2. I enjoyed your blog. Where are you posting your assignments so that you can link to them? Are they on a homepage, or on your blog somewhere? Your lesson was great and the directions were very clear. Posting the standards give your students a clear picture of exactly what is expected of them. Placing the links for them to go to allows them to spend time actually researching the information from a site that you have previewd as a site with quality information.

  3. I am actually posting my assignments on the school website with links to the documents. The directions are created through Google Docs which are then set up as a web page. When I do the 6th Grade assignment, it will all be uploaded into Moodle so the students will be able to access them through it. If I did not find the links for my Middle Schoolers, they would go to Wikipedia. Part of the assignment is that they do need to list their sources also.
